Raw Sheeps Milk Pecorino Romano Cheese

Product Description

1 Pound

Pecorino Romano is a hard, salty Italian cheese, often used for grating, made with sheep's milk. The name "pecorino" simply means "ovine" or "of sheep" in Italian; the name of the cheese, although protected, is a simple description rather than a brand: "pecorino romano" is simply "sheep's cheese of Rome".

Even though this variety of cheese originated in Lazio, as the name also indicates, most of its actual production has moved to the island of Sardinia. "Pecorino romano" is an Italian product with name recognized and protected by the laws of the European Community.

Pecorino Romano was a staple in the diet for the legionaries of ancient Rome. Today, it is still made according to the original recipe and is one of Italy's oldest cheeses. On the first of May, Roman families traditionally eat pecorino with fresh fava beans during a daily excursion in the Roman Campagna. It is mostly used in Central and Southern Italy.

tastes great

Haven't had time to make any sauces yet, but shredded some with some meat and crackers and tastes good

A Cheezy Review

I got some of the raw sheep's milk Pecorino Romano cheese from FFRM, and it's great. Tangy and salty, just how I like food to taste.
If you like cheese but are bored with the plain ol' stuff from your usual supermarket, try some of this wonderful cheese.

I stumbled upon this site while researching raw milk Pecorino Romano. I have placed orders with 2 other websites in the past & cheese arrived warm & sweaty. Frankie's came in 2 days, fully frozen along with ground lamb & chicken livers. Both the cheese & lamb were excellent quality, have not had the chicken livers yet. I have cooked professionally in both Napa & Sonoma, eaten only organic food for the past 50 years. Now as a Senior I live in a small CO. town with limited gourmet choices. I feel I am a good judge of quality food, my standards are high & I recommend Frankie's. So glad I found it & will continue to order. Also feel prices are very reasonable for quality offered.
